What is a Barrel Finishing?
Today, barrel finishing process is widely employed throughout various industries such as automotive and electronic devices as the final manufacturing process. The finishing process includes deburring, smoothing, mirror finishing, radiusing and descaling.
  Basic Principles of Barrel Finishing
Abrasive media, work pieces, compound and water are loaded into barrels at a certain ratio and are put into motion. Abrasive media and work pieces rub each other caused by the difference in weight, shape, speed and direction of abrasive media and work pieces. The friction generated under such movement results in surface finishing.
Abrasive media Abrasive media wears by direct contact with surface of work pieces until desired finishing is achieved.
3 Elements of Barrel Finishing
Barrel finishing machine Consists of a barrel with an internal lining, set to motion by a drive and transmission which gives kinetic energy to the contents in the barrel. Compound and water Maintains the performance of the abrasive media; prevents or restrains work pieces from damage.
Advantages of Barrel Finishing
Low processing cost
Nearly uniform finishing results
No skill required
Processing a large volume of work pieces at one time
Processing complicated work pieces
